"Top Strategies for Monetizing and Growing Your YouTube Channel"

Updated: Jun 28

Monetizing your social media, especially YouTube, can be exciting and rewarding. Here’s a simple guide to help you understand how you can turn your YouTube channel into a source of income.

I would like to mention that I do not earn from YouTube yet. However, with the right keywords and tags, YouTube has been a vital source of traffic to my blog. I started the AICameron website to drive traffic to my e-commerce shop In February 2024. I closed down my online store on the first of May 2024. I decided to research further into blogging and passive income ideas. YouTube stood out the most for me, I started to promote my blog and my books on YouTube, and so far, I have over %10 of my website traffic from YouTube.

Before we move further, note that I may earn a commission if you purchase from any of the marketing links attached at no cost to you. Remember to read the terms and conditions on this site, and any other site before you sign up for anything at all.

First and foremost, it's important to create engaging and high-quality content that appeals to your target audience. The more people enjoy and find value in your videos, the more likely they are to subscribe to your channel and watch your videos regularly.

Once you have a good amount of content and a growing number of subscribers, you can apply for the YouTube Partner Program. This program allows you to earn money from ads that are shown on your videos. However, you need to meet certain requirements to be eligible, such as having at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in the past 12 months.

Another way to monetize your YouTube channel is through sponsorships. Brands are always looking for influencers to promote their products or services. If your channel has a strong following, companies might pay you to create sponsored content. This could be in the form of product reviews, unboxing videos, or simply mentioning their product in your videos.

Affiliate marketing is also a popular method. This involves promoting products or services and earning a commission for every sale made through your referral link. Many companies offer affiliate programs that you can sign up for.

Merchandise can be another revenue stream. If you have a loyal fan base, you can design and sell your own branded merchandise like t-shirts, mugs, or posters. Platforms like Teespring and Merchbar make it easy to create and sell merchandise directly through your YouTube channel.

Finally, don't forget about YouTube's Super Chat and Super Stickers features. These allow your viewers to pay to have their messages highlighted during live chats, which can be a fun and interactive way to engage with your audience while earning money.

In summary, monetizing your YouTube channel involves creating great content, joining the YouTube Partner Program, securing sponsorships, engaging in affiliate marketing, selling merchandise, utilizing crowdfunding, and leveraging features like Super Chat. With dedication and creativity, you can turn your passion for creating videos into a profitable endeavor.

So, I have been researching the best ways to grow your YouTube channel for beginners, focusing on key strategies and tips that can help me build a successful and engaging presence on the platform. And here is what I have found from experience, research, and word of mouth from successful YouTubers and online resources:

I wish I knew everything I know now, but since it's never too late to start something, I would give it a go. So, from today the 21st of June 2024, I am going to follow these steps to grow my YouTube page.

1. Define Your Niche and Audience

The first step to growing your YouTube channel is to have a clear understanding of your niche and target audience. Choose a specific topic or theme that you are passionate about and know about. This could be anything from gaming, cooking, beauty, tech reviews, or educational content. By narrowing down your focus, you can create content that resonates with a specific group of viewers, making it easier to build a loyal audience.

Personally, my interests are in productivity, side gigs, and passive income. This gives me a wide audience, thus making defining my audience a bit difficult. So, I have been posting random videos on my YouTube account. It is relatively new and could do with some love.

I have been paying close attention to my statistics over the past week. I gained 3 new subscribers. from posting some inspirational videos. I noticed that I got a few likes and comments here and there. Truth be told, as a new creator, and publisher, I get nervous shortly after posting my content. I begin to wonder if they like me or not. Sometimes I even second-guess myself. In essence, I have identified two out of my 3 target audiences/niches.

I just started placing ads two weeks ago, and it is already trickling down the cents every day. 'So, this is what passive income feels like'.

So far, I have 14 or 15 followers at the time of writing this post. I want to make some big changes to utilize all the advantages that the YouTube platforms present me at the moment.

Update: So, I have been to my youtube about 20 times since I published this Post. I feel so guilty of not practicing what I preach. So, I started by responding to comments and it felt so good. I was nervous at first but its all bliss now being able to respond and appreciate people who keep my Page Active.

2. Create High-Quality Content

Quality is paramount when it comes to YouTube videos. Invest in good equipment such as a decent camera, microphone, and lighting to ensure your videos look and sound professional. Additionally, pay attention to your editing process. Use software that allows you to cut out unnecessary parts, add transitions, and enhance the overall viewing experience. High-quality content will keep viewers coming back for more.

Recall I mentioned that I got three new subscribers in a few days. One thing I noticed is that aside from my family and friends who just follow to make up the numbers, my new subscribers followed after I started using apps to edit my videos. So far, I have used Cap Cut, Canva, and Snapchat for editing my photos and videos.

3. Consistency is Key

Now, there is no gainsaying that uploading videos on a regular schedule is crucial for growing your YouTube channel. Consistency helps keep your audience engaged and coming back to your channel. Whether you choose to upload weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, make sure you stick to your schedule. This not only builds trust with your audience but also signals to YouTube's algorithm that your channel is active, which can help improve your visibility.

So, I have not been consistent in my posts. In months or weeks where I posted consistently, I got at least one or two new followers.

This is what my stats for one week look like. This is the week, that I posted intentionally, from editing, to posting to tags. I noticed 1 out of 6 videos do well, so, my simple mathematics is to continue posting as I have been doing for the past 14 days, which is posting at least 5 out of 7 days.

There are days when my videos get 0 views, and I do not stop posting, indeed it is tiring and frustrating but I believe that good things require some level of hard work.

Even though I have only 15 followers, I would go to my YouTube bio section to design, make adjustments, and use keywords and tags to see what would become of my YouTube channel in December 2024. I am going to put in the work this summer, to upload meaningful and ever-green content.

4. Optimize Your Videos for SEO

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is essential for getting your videos discovered on YouTube. Use relevant keywords in your video titles, descriptions, and tags to help your content appear in search results. Conduct keyword research to find out what terms your target audience is searching for. Additionally, create engaging thumbnails and titles that encourage viewers to click on your videos. I have only started learning the ropes of SEO and the rest of the technical terms. But I got a hint from Google. I was going through my website analytics and it kept coming up with weekly meal planners and project planner AI.

5. Engage with Your Audience

Building a community is crucial for the success of your YouTube channel. Respond to comments on your videos, ask for feedback, and encourage viewers to like, share, and subscribe. Engaging with your audience makes them feel valued and more likely to become loyal supporters of your channel. You can also use social media platforms to interact with your audience and promote your content.

I am guilty of not interacting with my audience. So, if you are guilty of this, you are not alone. I am even ‘scared’ of seeing what someone has written in my comments. Again, since I am testing out the steps in this post as my strategy for growth in the Youtube space.

So, you can undertake with me in the comment sections, that you would try this model whether you are new, or old in the Youtube space. Let us carry out this practical

experiment if you like, to see positive changes.

6. Collaborate with Other Creators

Collaborations can help you reach new audiences and grow your channel. Partner with other YouTubers in your niche to create content together. This can introduce your channel to its viewers and vice versa, providing a mutually beneficial opportunity for growth. Make sure to choose collaborators whose content and values align with yours for the best results.

On this number, I am currently working with 5 other women in very different niches, we are coming together to do collaborative projects which we will announce in due time. We hope to support each other by growing together and building a strong network of passive income earners. So, instead of ‘hating’, ‘beefing’, or ‘unhealthy competitions’, seek advice, collaboration, help, and tips.

7. Analyze Your Performance

Regularly review your channel's analytics to understand what works and what doesn't. Pay attention to metrics such as watch time, audience retention, and engagement rates. Use this data to refine your content strategy and improve your videos. Understanding your performance can help you make informed decisions that contribute to the growth of your channel.

I have started analyzing my performance as I said in numbers one and two above. Do not treat your YouTube comments sections with a ‘bird box’ approach. As I undertook earlier, I am going to start doing everything that we have discussed in this post. You can join me, or I will be back in a few weeks or, months to let you know what I have done so far in terms of analyzing

and acting on my performance.

8. Stay Authentic and Patient

Finally, stay true to yourself and be patient. Growing a YouTube channel takes time and effort. Authenticity resonates with viewers, so be genuine and transparent in your content. Avoid the temptation to cut corners or chase trends that don't align with your brand. With dedication and persistence, your channel will grow, and you'll build a community of engaged and loyal viewers.

About chasing trends and deviating from your brand or values, it is important to note that every trending topic, might not be money-makers for your business. One thing you can do is to tweak, adjust, refine, and brush up on ‘trends’ to go hand in hand with your niche.
